I just had an opportunity to participate in an Eichler House tour sponsored by the AIA-Orange County Chapter. This was a great chance to see an amazing assortment of Eichlers, meet the owners who care for them, and mingle with aficionados who made the pilgrimage to admire these mid-century modern houses made in the early 1960s. For those who might not know, the City of Orange has about 350 of the nearly 600 Eichlers that were built in Southern California, which makes Orange one special city! If you want some more specific information about Eichlers in Orange, please read my earlier blog. I also recommend this article by Elisabeth Deffner. Here are some of the highlights of my tour in the Fairhaven Tract:

Unique Eichler Houses are in High Demand
The Mid Century Modern architectural style seems to be growing in popularity. Fortunately for fans of this style, renowned architect Joseph Eichler's home designs were built in several housing tracts in Orange around 1960-1962. According to Eichler real estate specialist Kelly Laule, Eichler enthusiasts are quickly buying these homes and renovating them as soon as they come to market.

Old Towne Orange Will Take You Back in Time
Old Towne Orange is certainly one of the best historic districts in California. It is known as the "Antique Capital of Southern California" with numerous antique, collectible, and specialty shops. There are also numerous restaurants, specialty food shops, and tea rooms. The historic downtown is an outstanding example of "Main Street USA" and has been used as the backdrop of several films. Old Towne is full of historic structures that could never be covered in one blog posting, so this is only a sampler of what a visitor might see.
