Unique Eichler Houses are in High Demand

The Mid Century Modern architectural style seems to be growing in popularity. Fortunately for fans of this style, renowned architect Joseph Eichler's home designs were built in several housing tracts in Orange around 1960-1962. According to Eichler real estate specialist Kelly Laule, Eichler enthusiasts are quickly buying these homes and renovating them as soon as they come to market.

Eichler Residence - 564 S. Woodland Street, Orange, Ca.

According to Elisabeth Deffner, "Eichler homes' innovative designs were ahead of their time - not simply because of elements like 'front-to-back living,' atriums, or including two bathrooms in a three-bedroom house, but because these elements were included in tract houses.  The first Southern California city to sprout the distinctive post-and-beam homes, Orange is the site of 350 of the 600 Southern California Eichlers."

Post and beam construction at the front of the house create nice symmetry.

The front entrance of the house leads right into the atrium. With beautiful California weather, these atriums really can be enjoyed.

Unique windows often seen in mid modern architecture.

Atriums are an integral element of Eichler designs.

Completely redesigned kitchen with numerous mid mod elements.

Of course this new kitchen includes modern conveniences such as these wine refrigerators.

The living room is outfitted with a Barcelona Chair, an essential element of the mid mod home.

Completely renovated bathroom.

This house is quite small at only 1,730 square feet. This is the master bedroom which reflects the smaller size of the house. Notice the cool slatted windows in the upper right so you can enjoy some fresh air.

Quintessential California pool. Post and beam elements are all around the house.

I rate this house as outstanding.

  1. The house was cool, but it was even cooler that there were so many on one street! Enthusiasts are really starting to buy up these houses and renovate them.
